abstract = "Among techniques of digital image processing, fusion appears as an
important tool because it is a method that combines images of
different spectral and spatial characteristics to synthesize a new
image with better spatial resolution than the original
multispectral image. The image fusion methods are widely used in
several sensing applications, so this paper analyzed the
contribution of the image fusion from CBERS-2B (China-Brazil
Earth-Resources Satellite) orbital of the CCD and HRC sensor by
the IHS method (Intensity, Hue, Saturation) for detecting the edge
of a stretch of the Itaparica Reservoir. The technique was applied
in bands 1, 2 and 3 of the CCD sensor (spatial resolution of 20
meters) and in the panchromatic band of the HRC sensor (spatial
resolution of 2.7 meters, operating in the spectral range covering
the visible and part of the near infrared). Spring 5.2.7 software
was used to perform the tests and the Sobel filter for edge
detection, as well as ArcGis 10.1 for adjusting and cropping HRC
and CCD scenes. It was observed that the fusion technique
presented a positive contribution, because the edges contours were
less thick than in the original image allowing the visualization
of more details. On the other hand, because of the application of
the Sobel filter, fusion had flaws in edge detection in some
                         stretches of the image.",
